ReplyDeleteEffective antiretrovial drugs has helped in stabilizing HIV in many countries. It has been possible to convert HIV infection as a chronic treatable disease by increasing life span as well as quality of life of HIV infected patients.
ReplyDeleteKnowing ones status is very essential in HIV/AIDS
ReplyDeletePeople living with HIV infection often do not know they are infected, in part because there are often no symptoms after recent infection. Yet these people are very infectious and may unknowingly transmit the disease. That’s why many authorities recommend HIV testing during routine medical care for adults, adolescents, and pregnant women. With early diagnosis, people can help prevent transmission and begin antiretroviral treatment sooner. There is increasing evidence that when treatment begins sooner, quality of life is better, there is a lower risk of transmission, and there is less chance of developing AIDS.
ReplyDeleteHome-based HIV testing and counselling (HBHTC) would also help in overcoming some of the barriers and provide testing to individuals who might not otherwise seek services.
