PEP FOR PREVENTION OF HIV

PEP FOR PREVENTION Of HIV

Pep (post  exposure  prophylaxis) mean  taking  antiretroviral medicines (ART
) after being  potentially exposed to prevent becoming infected. Pep should  be only  in emergency situations and must be started  within 72   hour after recent. Possible exposure  to HIV. With pep an HIV  negative  person who may have been exposed  to HIV take anti-hiv drugs prescribed  by a doctor  to prevent infection. These  are the same drugs that people  living  with takes. Pep involve taking  two or three  of these drugs for a period  of one month. In the world of  pep exposure  to HIV is  often divided  into  two categories
1.occupational exposure
2.non occupational  exposure. Occupational exposure mean to exposure to HIV  at work and non occupational exposure mean to exposure to HIV through sex or drug use example when a person  share  needle  or has sex without  condom.
RATIONAL OF PEP
In the first  one two to three  days following exposure  to HIV  ,there is wide  of opportunities when taking  pep. It might  prevent an infection from occurring  .':during  this stage the virus  is busy affecting  the cell at site of exposure  .onces the virus is inside  the cell it start replicating to produce  more HIV virus .
Start to spread throughout the body .once this happenes infection  is permanent and  therefore theory  is that pep can be given  before  replicating cell because  it can stop the virus  and prevent  virision from spreading  through out the  body. There is some evidence  that suggestion that providing  pep after  potential  exposure  to HIV can help  to reduce a person risking  of HIV infection. However we when also know that pep is not 100 %effective  meaning  it will not prevent  all HIV  infections....by rahma

  6. Pep drugs are helpful but not 100% sure and they also do not prevent other sexually transmitted infections and many have not been educated on it's use and may not take the drug as it should be or not even know about it.. I would not vouch for pep drugs but use of condoms faithfulness and abstinence would be better
