PUBLIC STRATEGIES TO PREVENT HIV/AIDS INFECTION
Strategies refers to a plan of action designed to achieve a long-term or overall aim.
    According to the global HIV prevention working group,when assembling a national HIV prevention plans each country should prioritize access to proven prevention strategies,tailoring the targeting and scale-up of HIV prevention to particular national circumstances and needs.
They provided a roaster of a proven HIV prevention approaches which includes a range of measures.These include:
Preventing blood to blood transmission
-Provision of clean injection equipments to injection drug users.
-methadone or other substitution therapy for drug dependence.
-Blood safety(include screen of donated blood).
-Infection control in health care settings (including injection safety,universal precaution and antiretroviral prophylaxis following potential HIV exposure.
-Follow universal precaution which includes;
  • Use of protective equipments.
  • Safe use and disposal of sharps.
  • Sterilization of equipments.
  • Safe disposal of contaminated waste products.      
Preventing sexual transmission
-provide abstinence or being faithful to one uninfected partner.
-provide instruction on the consistent and correct use of condoms both male and female.
-Provide access to HIV testing and counselling to people.
-Diagnosis and treatment of sexually transmitted diseases.
DRUG USE
-Educate about the risk of infection through drug use with contaminated needles and syringes.
-Provide referral for treatment of drug dependence.
Preventing mothers to child transmission
~Primary HIV prevention for women of childbearing are;
  • Provide ARV treatment when indicated and available.
  • Provide ARV prophylaxis during labour and delivery.
  • Offer effective caesarean section when safe.
  • Follow safer delivery practices.
  • Provide linkages to treatment ,care and social support for mothers and families with HIV infection.
  • Provide infant-feeding counselling.
SOCIAL STRATEGIES AND SUPPORTIVE POLICIES
-Provide HIV awareness campaign(include mass media)
-Anti stigma measures.
-Provide gender equity and women's empowerment initiatives.
-Involvement of communities and HIV infected individuals.
-Provide legal reforms to create an environment supportive of HIV prevention(such as laws against needle possession).
NOTE;The main strategy for HIV preventions in Kenya has followed the ABC approach(Abstinence, Faithfulness,Condom use)
-This is to provide hard data so people can decide how to protect themselves.
-The only 100% effective way to avoid HIV is to abstain or to be naturally faithful to a single HIV negative partner.

  6. Abstience is not ment for many ,as people love sex than themselves ,majority of the people in our current society.Should be encouraged to use protection though it's not guranted enough for safe Protection against the virus.

  7. Abstinence is the only 100%effective way to prevent HIV ,other sexually transmitted diseases and pregnancy
    The longer you wait to start having oral,vaginal or anal sex ,the fewer sexual partners you are likely to have in your lifetime.
    Having fewer partners lowers your chances of having sex with someone who has HIV or STD.

  10. The best way to prevent the transmission of HIV virus is by abstainance .When engaging in sex , condoms are the best preventive measure. Educative measures should be carried out on how to use a condom,this will great assist in the prevention of the virus.

  12. Lack of honesty among the infected individuals make it even more difficult in reducing the spread of HIV/AIDs. For their are those who just infect others intentionally by either using the uninfected people or having protected sex with an intention of affecting them.

It might appear difficult to change ones lifestyle but if porper education is provided to help people change it will be easier.like people can be educated on disadvantage of wife inheritance which is a culture for some communities and also on polygamy which may lead to higher spread of HIV.instead they should be educated on how to abstain for those that are not married and to be faithful for the married by Naomi Ngata

Educative material should be brought out to the majority affected groups and the consequences and death risk of HIV should be put out for all to know so as to tackle the issue at hand . .Not enough people know about the topic HIV since it is some sort of a taboo in speaking of it... Ways of prevention should be always taught to the uninfected people

There are some public and social plans that have being designed to prevent the spread of HIV .preventing blood to blood transmission,,preventing sexual transmission,,educating drug users about HIV infection through sharing needles and syringes ,,preventing mothers to child transmission and providing HIV awareness they have really helped alot to reduce HIV transmission but abstinence among the unmarried ( mostly youths )and being faithful to the married couples is always the best ways to stop HIV spread,,,,by christine.

  33. Prevention efforts are necessary, social factors like inequalities, gender differences and cultural barriers need to be addressed, especially women empowerment.
    Youths should be targeted through age specific sex education programs. High risk and. Vulnerable populations should be prioritized. Local leaders and peer training are necessary to reach these populations.
    A comprehensive and integrated approach to HIV prevention is advocated.

Choose less risky sexual behaviors anal sex is the highest risk sexual activity for hiv transmission if your partner is hiv negative it is less risky if they are the insertive partner and you are the receptive partner (bottom) during anal sex oral sex is much less risky than anal or vaginal sex.by Zahra

In a society where sexual behaviours is rampant,it may be difficult to enforce health education on hiv and aids and its effects to the public.It is therefore important to engage all sectors including the government to avail necessary services such as VCT etc and employ skilled personnels who would engage the public in creating hiv and aids awareness.
