HIV /AIDS AND LESBIANISM

HIV AIDS and Lesbianism.
Lesbianism is a term which describes sexual attraction between women and it can also be used to describe sexual activity between women. HIV is a sexually transmitted disease. Like any other sexual activity, sex between lesbians can be a mode through which HIV is transmitted.
The vulnerability of lesbians to HIV infection is a complicated public health issue that is ignored by many parties involved because it is not highly documented. In fact, research from phylogenic analysis says that female to female sexual contact enhances HIV transmission compared to male to male or male to female.
Historically confirming, HIV transmission in lesbian sexual activity has been difficult to gauge because other risk factors cannot be ruled out such as sexual intercourse or other common modes of transmission such as sex toys. More over data on its transmission shows that HIV between lesbians are rare though there are few reports and cases of female to female on risk of infection.
Lesbians and bisexual women engage in at high risk sexual and social behavior that place them at high risk such as unprotected sex with men thus increase number of sexual partners.
Studies have shown that lesbians engage in high risk factors and other behaviors compared to the heterosexuals. However, more studies on the risk of HIV transmission between women needs to be done by conducting research and case studies of HIV victims in lesbian relationships
In order to reduce the risk of HIV transmission among women who had sex they should avoid exposure of a mucous membrane to mouth, especially broken tissues to vaginal secretion, menstrual blood and consistency in using condom every time for sexual contact. Women should avoid sharing toys and other sexual objects that are meant to be personal. No barrier methods for using oral sex have been evaluated as effective however natural rubber latex sheet, dental dams, cut open condoms may offer some protections from contacting others’ blood.
In conclusion, lesbians need to speak up and feel free to consult physicians regardless of how personal their situation can be.

  9. Hiv cab be transmitted through lesbianism but at a low rate.Although when lesbians engage in sex which is unprotected, there is exchange of fluids which can contribute to transmission of the disease but at a low rate,by christine

  10. HIV is transmitted when blood, vaginal fluids, breast milk or semen from an infected person enters your bloodstream. So it follows that lesbians can be infected with HIV through having unsafe sex (with women or men), sharing injection drug works (needles), and piercing and tattooing with unsterilized equipment. Still, given the total lack of data on transmission between women, many lesbians who only have sex with other lesbians may view the whole risk scenario as completely hypothetical.
