EFFECTS OF DISCLOSING ONES STATUS

EFFECTS OF DISCLOSING ONE IS HIV POSITIVE
When one declares that they are HIV positive, there are always positive and negative effects that follows. These effects cause various changes among the victims. The positive side of disclosing you are HIV positive is as follows
One may reduce the possibility of spreading HIV to others for example, one would avoid multiple partners and stick to family or one person who probably could be affected to avoid the danger of spreading.
The government may come in and give or add more healthcare services to cater for the affected. This is when they get the number of them that are affected.
It may bring psychological satisfaction giving peace and rest to the victim having knowledge that others know about their situation and maybe are helping out in the situation.
One is empowered to empower others – when one discloses his positive status, he has the mandate to educate and warn others concerning the effects of and repercussion of HIV.
The affected is able to get the right treatment after disclosure from doctors which may prolong the life of the affected and also curb the spread.
The negative effects of disclosing you are HIV positive are as follows
One might experience stigmatization hence facing the dangers of isolation by people in the community.
You might lose your partner since they may lose trust in you and fear for their lives.
People may disregard or lose respect to you and as a result bring depression to the affected.
A person may suffer low esteem since they know that the people know about their situation. They may also feel that they are not accepted like the rest in the community.
One may experience loss of privacy because they may feel that people have knowledge concerning their lives and experience insecurity.

  1. Anticipated stigma leads to fear of rejection by the society and violence from partners Who discover their partner,s positive status, that leads to abandonment especially the discordant couples.
However disclosure can lead to positive HIV infections management and lower the risks of new infections since the society knows who is already infected and make wise choices about their sexual behavior.
