HIV/AIDs is costly to most families and society at large. When the
patients are in the period of illness, medical costs are very high and the
income of the family goes down. After death ,funerals are also costly
hence creating burden on family and also relatives.
Income is lost and assets are sold or rented in order to get
cash. For poorer and rural households, the ability to cope with external
shocks such as draught or increase in price of staple product will be
reduced further. This section sets out some of the economic condition
that follows HIV/AIDS.
Shifts in spending: The burden of medical and related
expenses induces changes in family spending patterns .As medical
expenses climb, spending on other items tends to decline. Households
with an AIDS sick member were found to reduce spending on
necessities. The most likely expenses to be cut clothing’s and other
services. Some of the effected families reduced spending on food, While
a high percentage are reported that they already had insufficient food at
various times. Spending on food and education may be reduced
significantly. This cuts in basic necessities’ further contribute to overall
house hold poverty as malnutrition, health of children and women, and
future work opportunities are compromised.

The expenses here really burden the family and also strain the economy instead of doing other income generating projects the government have to give millions for the ARVs to be given to the infected free of charge .. People should work on prevention which will benefit the country as a whole.. .

for the sick which may lead to poverty that may cause
the young girls of the affected family to engage in
commercial sexual transactions.
Education on HiV/AIDS should be given to the community thus reducing spreading infection of the disease... Hence money will not be used..

Prevention of HIV by the help of government by providing ARVs and teaching ways of prevention may assist in saving lives of many infected parents who have no hope with life.... Thus preventing in increase of opharns and children living with HIV who got the virus from there mothers breast feeding.

ReplyDeleteMost of the families with HIV infected people suffers economically this is because the maintainance cost of the infected is a bit high because they require a balance diet food and some fruits.This leads to borrowing of loans or even selling of their assets which leaves them in a poverty life.The government's economic growth reduces because the government uses it's own money in buying and spreading of the ARVs medicine. ReplyDeleteHIV has affected the poor families terribly as it is expensive to be sick becouse some times the parent may die and the children are left orphan and to feed for them selves and some even become street children .The government should do something to help the orphans.

The uninfected members are the ones who are supposed to take good care of them and this requires alot of money for food and the ARVs. The government also spend alot of money in the ARVs hence reducing economic growth.
