CONDOMS AND HIV
CONDOMS AND HIV
Condoms are physical barries that ruduses the risk of a sexual expossure to HIV reason they are made of material that dont allow HIV to pass through.However, there is much less protective inconsistently or incorrectly.They either also provide protection from other sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
Types of condoms
we have two types of condoms available to prevent the sexual transmission of HIV.
1.The external condom/male condom-its made from polyurethane/latex which covers the penis during sexual intercourse.
2.The internal condom/female condom-this is a pouch made of polyurethane or nitrile.femal condom can also be used for anal sex.one end of the pouch is open and the other closed with a flexible ring at both ends.The ring at the closed head is inserted into the virgina or anus to hold the condom in place.in this case,the ring at the open end of the pouch remains outside the vagina or anus.
How condoms help prevent sexual transmission of HIV
Labolatory studies shows that materials used to make condoms such as late,and nitrile dont let HIV pass through them.condoms are barrier to HIV infection because they prevent vagina,penis,rectum and mouth from being exposed to bodily fluids such as semen,vaginal fluid and rectal fluid that can contain HIV.
Why its importance of using condoms correctly
its important to use condoms correctly because failuire can cause a condom to break,slip or leak during sex.This can compromise condom effectiveness by allowing vulnerable body parts to come into contact with fluids containing HIV.Incorrect use can also increase the risk of HIV transmission,such as putting a condom on too late or removing the condom too early.
To minimize the risk of condom failure and maximize the effectiveness of condoms,correct use includes;
1.Finding an external condom with the right feel and fit.
2.Checking the expiry date and discarding expired condoms.
3.Using a new condom for every act of vaginalor anal sex.
4.Putting the condom off and taking it off correctly.
5.Using a condom for the entire act of sex,from start to finish
