DRUG ABUSE CONTRIBUTION TO HIV/AIDS SPREAD

DRUG ABUSE CONTRIBUTION TO HIV /AIDS SPREAD
Drug abuse is the over or under use  of any substance that alternates the normal functioning of the body.
Drug abuse has been a great contributor to the spread  of HIV/AIDS. Do drugs contribute to the Spread  of HIV and how? It  increases the likely hood  of users to engage in high-risk  sexual practice   with infected individuals.
Drug abuse also interferes with  effectiveness  of HIV treatment. Addicts may engage in sexually risky behaviors to obtain drugs or money for drugs. Sharing of needles while doing  drugs also exposes users to  infection since no one really  bothers about  the status of the other drug user. Abuse of substance      increases cancer risk ( ie)  most HIV patients  are smokers hence increased  incidence of lung cancer shortening the lifespan of the patient .
Research shows that drug abuse causes greater  injury to the  brain as opposed  to those patients who  don't  abuse drugs.

  3. If a person take excess drugs such as alcohol , he/she will end up misbehaving like engaging in unprotected sex without knowing the kind of a person that he/she is having sex with, If one of them has the HIV infection probably he will infect the other one, this will bring about depressions to the infected one because he/she will start regretting which will not help at all.
The HIV infected people should not abuse drugs especially the harmful ones which may cause diseases like lung cancer to their bodies, this is because their bodies are already weak and adding the diseases will unable the antibodies to fight the disease anymore which will lead to death.

  4. Drug abuse obviously will increase the rate of spreading HIV.This is because drug abuse encourages one to be involved in sexual practices and maybe in sharing of needles if there was one infected by Aids definitely the disease will be transmitted by christine

  5. Although HIV/AIDS can affect anyone, the risk of infection is significantly higher in patients suffering from substance abuse, whether the risk is of direct exposure through needles or increased likelihood of high risk behavior due to loss of judgment. Substance abuse is of primary concern to HIV/AIDS by promoting actions which increase the initial risk of infection. Furthermore, some abused substances can also influence disease progression and interfere with the effectiveness of treatment.

  6. Transmission of HIV disease is fueled in part by the use of illicit drugs. In addition to direct transmission through sharing injection drug equipment, indirect transmission occurs through sexual contact with HIV positive injection drug users. Moreover, the use of both injected and non-injected illicit drugs increases risk for HIV because of their effects on decision making and sexual risk taking.

Drug abuse and addiction have always been inextricably linked to HIV/Aids. For many years, people often believed that this connection was due only directly to the substance abuse, i.e. injection drug use and needle sharing.

However, this way of thinking greatly underestimates the impact that drug use and abuse can have on the spread of HIV/Aids through the risky behaviors it engenders. Drug and alcohol intoxication affects judgment and can lead to effects on decision making and risky sexual behavior that puts participants at risk of contracting or transmitting HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases.

In addition, drug use and substance abuse can facilitate the progress of HIV infection by further compromising the immune system.

  9. Drug users have a great risk of contacting HIV in that once these drugs inhibits the body, they take total control which impairs thoughts and judgement. Those on HIV treatment are at worse risk as it may lead to AID due to mixture in drug intake which destroys the immune completely.

  12. Drugs that mainly cause sex are those that people tend to use syringe to inject themselves and pass it on to one another hence if one is infected he/she is likely to transmit it to the other people and some people have unprotected sex when they are high and tipsy and they don't care who they have sex with and end up having sex with infected people. 18. I think that people should not used drugs as a shield of their immoral actions. Though drugs affects our thinking, people should not do things only to end up saying I was under the effect of drugs. So drugs should not be associated with the high rate of spread of HIV.

  19. Drugs is one of the contributor to the spread of HIV. When people are drunk, they are out of their mind and they can easily engage in sexual activities leading to the spread of the virus if one of the partner involved is infected. Lastly, if taking drugs is compulsory for the addicted, then may them drink responsibly. By Naomi

  24. Drugs are major contribution of HIV/AIDS becouse when you high people dont have control on their brains and can have sex by anything /anyone and get infected .so we should educate people on the effect of the drugs .it is among the youth who think by smoking or drinking makes you MACHO newsflash it does infACT it makes you do stupid things so BEWARE

  25. Drug users should reduce the amount of drugs the using or they should put themselves first by caring what they put into their bodies( those who inject themselves) they should visit rehabilitation, guiding and counseling to know how they can stop engaging in drugs which is highly cause of Hiv transmission due to sharing of needles.

  29. When we talk of drug abuse can we be specific, taking an over the counter drug (OTC) is also abouse .example taking actal term which is an antiacid releaver for hurtburn etc the doctors would require you take. 1*3 but we take as much as we can to releave the hurtburn so does that lead to spread of HIV??.
According to me most spread of HIV by drug abuse is by use of drugs that make one get high or zoned of to an extent of not recognizing or knowing ur sober self example Heroine, cocaine, excessive alcohol ,bhang etc
With some of this drugs HIV won't be spread by sexual contact but also needles as we Inject the drug into the system .This mostly happens in mombasa bombolulu and bamburi where user's prefer sharing needles inorder to save the little money they have for their next dose or shot when the withdrawal symptoms kick in .

  39. Alcohol and drugs can alter people's judgment. They may take risks that might expose them to HIV that they would not take when sober.
Sharing needles to inject drugs (such as heroin) is VERY dangerous and can easily spread HIV (and other serious diseases) from one person to another.
Some people who are addicted to drugs may trade sex for drugs or money to get more drugs. This may put them at greater risk of HIV, especially if they do not always practice safe sex.
