SIMILARITIES
1. They are both transmitted by the same behaviour and share the same risk factors.
2. They both affect the unborn babies.
3. They both lead to decline in life expectancy.
4. They both can be controlled by preventing transmission through safer sexual practices and improved health seaking behaviours.
5. They both threaten haelth of infected person's sexual partner and the outcomes of pregnancy.
6. They both have consequences on family income and resources.
7. They both disrupt family relationships and leads to marital instability.
DIFFERENCES
1. Most STIs can be treated while HIV/AIDS have no cure.
2. HIV/AIDS impact on the society at large and has more effects on the economy while the effects of STIs impact mostly the infected person.
3. STIs affects the genital organs of the infected person while HIV/AIDS affects the immune system.
4. HIV/AIDS has more intense conditions and brings decline in economic status, burden for caring for infected persons, stigmatization, isolation and pschological trauma in contrast to STIs.
5. 30-40% of the babies born to infected mothers will also be infected with HIV, develop HIV/AIDS and eventually die. This does not often occur in STIs.
