HIV PREVENTON
Primary and Secondary HIV Prevention.
HIV testing and counseling was thought of as the main prevention intervention for people who thought they may be at risk for infection or who tested HIV negative.Today, Comprehensive HIV Prevention involves primary and Secondary activities.
Primary HIV prevention refers to activities directed to keeping an HIV  negative person negative.
Secondary HIV Prevention refers to activities for the person who is HIV positive or has AIDS.
Goal of Secondary HIV Prevention is to make sure that;
1.Infected person  does not transmit the virus to others
2.Remain health overtime
3.Does not become re_infected with the virus
Primary and Secondary HIV Prevention activities enhance the health of veterans and are an effective means in which to decrease the number of new HIV infections
Primary and Secondary HIV Prevention activities include;
1.HIV risk assessment and risk_reduction counseling.
2.HIV testing and counseling
3.partner notification and and referral services.
4.Education on sexual behaviour changes and safer sex methods.
5.Support of medication adherence for those with HIV/ADS.
6.Screening for sexually transmitted diseases.
7.Discussing healthy lifestyle choices.
Potential obstacles to HIV Prevention activities taking place in clinical settings involves;
Narrow conceptions of medical care and the role of physician or health care providers in HIV Prevention
A provider's discomfort with discussing human asexuality and illicit drug use and their attitude towards persons with HIV or AIDS
Constraints on time and resources and the ambiguity of HIV Prevention messages.
