HIV PREVENTION STRATEGIES
HIV prevention refers to practices done to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS.These practices can be done by individuals or may be instituted by governments or other organizations as public health policies.The following strategies can be used to prevent spread of HIV/AIDS.
a).Advertising and Campaigns
Message delievered through health advertising and social campaigns which educate people about danger of HIV/AIDS and simple methods of prevention are important.This has increased knowledge about HIV/AIDS among the people.
b).Sex Education
Sex education should be provided in schools to the students by teachers and at home by parents to their children.This will increase the know-how of HIV/AIDS in societies and reduce its dangers of spreading.
c).Sexual Abstinence
Sexual abstinence is the most effective and sure way of HIV/AIDS prevention.Youths should be advised to abstain ,this will prevent spread of AIDS by a higher percentage rate as many young people who mostly involve in immoral sexual behaviours like unprotected sex.
d).HIV testing
Populations which receive HIV testing are less likely to engage in behaviours that will lead to contracting of HIV.HIV testing always encourage people to change their behaviours to become less likely to contract HIV.
e).Sexual Contact
Condom use reduces the risk of HIV transmission .Where one partner of acouple is infected use of condom results in rates of HIV for the uninfected person below one percent per year.
f).Immigration Regulation
Immigration of people freely has led to increased spread of HIV.Imposing some form of travel restriction either for short-term or long-term stays for people infected with HIV will reduce the spread of the disease.
g).Mother-to-Child
Programs to prevent transmission of HIV/AIDS from mother to child can reduce rate of transmission by 91-98 percent.This can be done by use of combination of antivirals during pregnancy and after birth,also bootle feeding rather than breast feeding should be encouraged to infected mothers.
In conclusion,every individual should partipate in acampaign against HIV spread because it affects everyone in society either directly or indirectly.
