DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HIV AND AIDS

DIFFERENCES BETWEEN HIV AND AIDS
Introduction:
It is easy to confuse HIV and AIDS but these are different diagnoses, although they do go hand-in –hand.HIV is a virus that can lead to a condition called aids also known as stage 3 HIV.
Differences:
1. HIV is a virus.
HIV is a virus that can lead to immune system deterioration.as by the term “HIV” stands for human immunodeficiency virus. The name describes the virus which only human contract and attacks the immune system.as a result the immune system is unable to work effectively. Our immune can clear all viruses in our bodies but that is not the case with HIV which can only be controlled by medications which interrupt the viral life cycle.
2. AIDS is a condition.
aids is a condition from contracting HIV which lead to development of AIDS.AIDS develops when HIV has caused serious damage to the immune system.it is a complex condition with symptoms that vary from person to person. Symptoms of aids are related to infections a person may develop as a result of having a damaged immune system that cannot fight them as well.
3. HIV does not always progress to AIDS.
HIV infection does not necessarily progress to aids.in fact many people with HIV live for years without developing AIDS a person living with HIV can expect to live a near-normal life as long as he/she is medicated.
4. HIV can be transmitted from person to person.
Because HIV is a virus, it can be transmitted from one person to another just like other many viruses.AIDS,on the other hand is condition a person acquires only after they have contracted HIV.The virus is transmitted from person to another through exchange of infected bodily fluids.

5. HIV infection can be diagnosed by a simple test.
On HIV transmission, the immune system produces antibodies against the virus. A blood or saliva test can detect those antibodies to determine if the virus is present. AIDS cannot be tested since it takes long time for a person who has contracted HIV to develop AIDS.
