CONTRIBUTION OF ICT IN PREVENTING, TREATMENT AND CARE OF HIV/AIDS.

1.Internet- based portals.
There are comprehensive websites which can include document databases, search engines, chat rooms, lists, links to resources and many more features. Internet portals such as www.aidsmap.com or www.hivinsite.uscf.edu serve as one- stop source for HIV/AIDS information. They provide upto date information quickly and reach a wide audience.

2.Telemedicine.
It refers to the facilitation of health care via telephone or digital communication tools. Through telemedicine, urban health centers are able to provide access to quality, state- of- the- art medical care and education to health care providers in rural and underserved areas on HIV/AIDS.

3.Computer-Based Training (CBT).
CBT operates as a stand- alone or instructor- facilitated computer learning activity. It provides access to learning materials, interactive tutorials on HIV/AIDS which makes individuals have informed knowledge on sexual decisions making and risk assessment.

4.Satellite Teleconferences.
Satellite facilitie teleconferences both health and non-health related. Over 400 young people participated in a teleconference from different countries on Youth and HIV/AIDS and knowledge on HIV AIDS was made available to all participants of that real- time forum which costs less.

5.Electronic Mail ( e- mail).
It is a simple technology that has great potential for development communication. Information distribution, discussion, networking and advocacy for HIV AIDS are e- mail's forte. A good example is www.healthnet.org,   Getweb.
