ABOUT HIV/AIDS.
HIV stand for Human Immunodeficiency Virus.
AIDS stand for Acquired Immune Deficiency syndrome.
HIV and AIDS are different. HIV is a virus while AIDS is a syndrome. It's important to know the difference so that one can know how to prevent them.
HIV is a group of viruses known as retroviruses which when they get into the body it enters into many different cell's, incorporates it's gene's into the human DNA, and hijacks the cell's to produce HIV virus. HIV attacks cell's at the body's immune system called CD4 cell's.These cell's are destroyed by the infection, the body tries to keep up by making new cd4 cell's or trying to contain the virus, but eventually the HIV win's out and progressively destroys the body ability to fight infection. Without treatment HIV infection start to cause symptoms in an average of 8 years to 10years with opportunistic illness or diseases that can only cause illness in people with impaired immune function.
AIDS is a set of illness that develops as a result of advance HIV infection which destroyed the immune system. Treatment of HIV means that many people are staying well with fewer people are developing AIDS. The right treatment and support of people with HIV/AIDS can make them live longer and healthy lives.
It is important to take treatment correctly and deal with any possible side effects.
One can get HIV from unprotected sex, blood transfusion, transplants, sharing needles with the infected person, during child birth and breastfeeding.
The main way to prevent this infection is by abstaining from oral,Virginal and anal sex, this is the 100% way to prevent HIV infection.By avoiding behaviour's that can put one at risks such as sharing needles and cutting tools.
Everyone should note that HIV/AIDS cannot be cured but it is treatable and can be controlled with medication.
